Themed

Themed evenings on board ship are to add another element of fun.

Do not worry about these events they are optional and not usually applied to the whole ship.

Each cruise line and sometimes an individual ship has its own agenda so make sure you check with the company you are sailing with ahead of time.

The ships will have items in their shops that can help you if you want to partake in dressing up.

Tropical Night

For example if you have a tropical night, you will see colourful Hawaiian shirts often on a rail outside the shops to buy. Remember if you own it you have it for the next cruise and of course a BBQ at home.

You can buy clothes at home in preparation; during the summer retail shops often stock colourful shirts ready for the barbeque season. If you wish to but a grass skirt or a lei then party shops are a good place to start.

Often the ships entertainment schedule may have workshops  during the day where you can make something that you need.  Ascot hat a Hawaiian lei or a mask for example

Often there will be a 60s 70s or 80s evening generally held on casual nights. You can go ‘overboard’ no pun intended to create a complete ensemble or just a touch of the theme, such as ladies wearing very pale lipstick for the 60s or men wearing a curly wig of the 80s, it is entirely your choice and desire to what you do. Remember it is optional, so it is perfectly acceptable to wear normal casual wear.

Themed evenings on board ship are to add another element of fun.

Black and White theme is usually held on a black tie formal night, which is excellent for the gentlemen because they will be wearing their dinner suits.

Ladies should wear their lovely formal outfit in the colours of black and white in any combination from a black and white dress to a black dress and white Pashmina the combinations are endless.

The black and white evening is historical from a time of elegance, the theme was to attain sharpness and contrast, so please ladies do not wear a red flowery dress !! on a recent cruise I felt so disappointed to see a few ladies in other colours. What a shame, it showed disregard of the theme of the evening and they themselves stuck out like a sore thumb as the saying goes.
